Computational biologist

Host of The Biotech Futurist

I BELIEVE IN DOING SCIENCE

I am incredibly excited by what Biotech is achieving to support our health. I’m currently pursuing a PhD in the La Manno Lab at EPFL, Switzerland, as a computational biologist working on omics and neurodevelopment. I am also continuing my research on antisense oligonucleotides for ultrarare diseases with the Yu Lab in Boston, plus other open projects.

I BELIEVE IN COMMUNICATING SCIENCE

Personally, I love learning about fields different from mine, and I believe outreach is a powerful tool to inform the general population and clarify urgent questions. With my friends at Progetto Bio[Tecno]Logico, during the pandemic we realized how much we could help by explaining what we knew. Later, I founded the TEDxLungarnoMediceo in Pisa.

As a huge fan of podcasts during breakfast, drives, and walks, my own podcast The Biotech Futurist starts in March 2023. I interview a guest every week on what biology can achieve in the next 10-30 years, and how, to stimulate reflection and introduce broader biological concepts. Some topics the podcast will try to discuss include CRISPR therapeutics, rare diseases, interventional genomics, machine learning in biology, omics, cellular recording, liquid biopsy, oncology, longevity.

YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE

Something I’ve tried to retain and scale up from my childhood is building LEGOs. My projects have been featured by international websites.

I enjoy road trips and friend gatherings, but memory fades, so I take tons of pictures. I’ve also taken photos at a few small events.
